Friday favourites

Music: Sias newest album 1000 forms of fear is one of the best collection of songs I have ever heard. It has been constantly on repeat all week. It is so unique and powerful I instantly fell in love with it. My favourite tracks are hostage, big girls cry and free the animal but there isn’t a song I would skip which is incredibly rare.

TV: I started arrow and subsequently the flash and both have become a weekly addition to my TV schedule and highly ranked on my all time TV favourites. I am a huge superhero fan so this was already right up my street. The characters are all well written and the female characters are so strong in their own ways and not there to idolise the heroes but they become heroes which is great to watch.

Film: I have started to make my way through the oscar nominated films and this week I watched whiplash. I am a huge fan of Miles Teller and all his previous work but this was in another league. The story was so powerful and the acting was spectacular and this was easily my favourite film of the year so far.

Beauty: I found my body’s hop lipstick and gave it another go, I previously found it didn’t apply as well as others however this time was different somehow. I wore the colour “colour crush” and it was so beautiful on and applied really well so I will definitely be wearing that more often now.

Fashion: missguided.com is back in my life. I am so in love with this website. They’re clothes are amazing and so are the majority of their prices. I just ordered a new dress and some new trousers for £20 so I will definitely be shopping there a lot more now, as soon as I get a job.

The Grammys Top Five

I have finally managed to catch up on all things Grammy related and the fashion on the red carpet was just off the level this year. I have compiled my top 5 lady looks from the 57th Grammy Awards night.

I will start with Anna Kendrick. She looks absolutely phenomenal, I am so jealous, I could never pull off this outfit. It stands out from the usual dresses that are worn but is still so beautiful in its own right.

Next up is Ariana Grande. What I love most is that you have really seen her grow into her style particularly over the last year. This dress is so beautiful and elegant. The white and the silver is breathtaking and paired with her signature high pony she just looked the best I have ever seen her on the red carpet.

My next favourite is Miley Cyrus. This Black dress is so sophisticated and simple yet the cutouts and neckline keeps to her edgy style. I have always stuck up for the Miley transformation as she grew up and now she just looks like a beautiful young woman who is happy in her skin, which is a great inspiration

Sia and Maddie were the most stand out and they were absolutely awesome together on the red carpet. They are paired together now like peanut butter and Jelly and rightly so, their collaborations are off the charts and this red carpet look was no different. Sporting an emphasis on the signature blonde wig to keep Sia hidden from the camera and an outfit that looked amazing on both ladies they really blew me away. Plus don’t even get me started on that performance with Kristen Wiig as well, they really stole the night.

57th GRAMMY Awards - Arrivals

Finally Taylor Swift. This is my top look of the night. That dress is just…. WOW and the shoes are probably on the dream wishlist of a lot of girls right now. The whole look was pulled together perfectly and she was just radiating beauty on that red carpet. This is my favourite dress of the night and I can only dream that I will one day have an event to attend where I can where a dress like this.

How I spent my New Year

Once again I ended up not going out on new years eve. My plans fell through and I actually didn’t care. I have gotten to the point where I just can’t be arsed with going out especially when it will be packed with sweaty people, stumbling around. Even though I am only 19 I feel too old for all that now, even though I have actually never gone out for New Years. This year I have been feeling down and stressed about my future a lot more and apart from the fact I am becoming lazier and more unsociable, I didn’t feel like celebrating the end of the year.

So instead I enjoyed a nice hot bath with one of my lush bath bombs I got for Christmas, some candles and music. I found these amazing candles that change colour once they are lit, so the are authentic, aromatic candles but have an electric affect with the alternate colours. I don’t like wine or I would have had a glass with me as well. I have not done this in such a long time and I really don’t know why, it was so relaxing and so lovely to have that de-stress zone. I then saw the new year in with my family watching Queen and Adam Lambert – who were amazing.

Then fast forward a few hours of sleep and an agonizing long time trying to perfect both black liquid liner and glitter eyeliner and I went off and celebrated New Years day with my mums side of the family. We had a few drinks, a lovely dinner and played some games (of which I won both monopoly and the game of life, bonus) Over all it was a great day and I’m glad I wasn’t hungover like many others.

Here is to an amazing 2015!!

My 2014: Review in Pictures

So it is New Years Eve and once again I am sat reflecting on what I have accomplished this year. The answer is yet again nothing and even though I am quite disappointed that another year has rolled into one and no particularly exciting or stand out events have happened, I have still had a pretty good year. Here is my round up of my year with my favourite photo from each month.

2014 pics

This year I finished my first year at university which has been one of the best years of my life and I have met some amazing new friends. I have created some great memories with my family. My brother started primary school and I got to visit lego land and the Doctor Who experience in Cardiff. I am so grateful for everything that has happened this year. Also I started this blog this year and it has been much more enjoyable than I ever thought so cheers to another great year and I hope 2015 is just as good if not better.

Obsession 19: Lazy Sundays

This is it, I am in my final week of my countdown until I return to the independent, city, student life, I loved last year. As I start to pack up my bags to head back down South for my second year of university, I really start to cherish family time a lot more. Going to Uni this September feels so different to last year as the nerves aren’t there that go so wonderfully with being a fresher, but I still dread saying goodbye.

I had my last lazy day at home with my brother yesterday, where we stayed in our PJs all day and watched Disney films and played loads of games and I loved every minute of it. He is growing up so fast now and I am away from home a lot more that these days really mean a lot to me.

I have always been a fan of a good Pajama day but from now on my lazy days will consist of my movies, or assignments or the after effects of a night out and even though I still enjoy these they will not be the same as a day with my 4 year old brother.

So I have really learnt cherish these days because whilst they are happening they may seem so ordinary and dull to others but to me these are some of the best, most peaceful days where I am at my happiest and as we become older they seem to be fewer of them.

Obsession 18: Childhood

This isn’t quite an obsession however I have been thinking a lot about it recently. I have a four year old brother, and yes we have the same parents. I have been involved very much in his life and I have loved watching him grow up from this tiny baby to this amazing, curious, intelligent child who has just started primary school. Now having only one sibling with a 14 year age gap has made me realise a few things how childish I really am, how disgusted a lot of people are at the thought of teen pregnancy when they mistake him to be mine, yes old lady i see your dirty looks, and finally how different it is to grow up now to how it was in the 90’s, when I grew up.

This last point is obvious as times have changed but I thought I would have a look at the pros and cons at growing up then vs now.

TV:

The shows I have to put up now are awful. I don’t if it is just because I am too old or they have been getting worse put I honestly cannot sit through many more episodes of Peppa Pig, Ben and Holly and Big Barn Farm. He finally started watching Scooby Doo , which got me very excited as it is my personal favourite, however it has changed and not for the best. I was ready for the graphics to have changed and I admit the characters look a lot better however the story line is just ugh. They have included romantic relationships! Now we all know Fred and Daphne  had a little something going on although it was never really visually expressed but now they are full on dating with Fred getting jealous with other guys around her. Not only this but there is whole other drama as Velma was heartbroken after Shaggy chose Scooby over her! Just solve mysteries there is no need for this side order of drama! Not to mention when he gets older he has missed the golden era of the Disney Channel.

Technology:

Kids nowadays are a lot more capable at technology and it is a lot more accessible to them. My brother had mastered the i-pod touch at the age of 2 and the computer at the age of 3, and my parents tablet at age 4, he is now able to play games on both without assistance. I however did not use a computer until the age of like 6 and that was only for 1 game of Wacky Racers and later at age 9 for the odd game of Sims. For Christmas last year he got the child’s version of a laptop, a camera and a tablet now these are all educational and he got other toys as well but at this age I was getting barbies and dress up outfits. Many children these days do have i-pads and tablets even mobile phones whilst personally I believe it is not needed they can be educational and they do help with their learning whilst being fun for them which is good. However when I see a 2 year old taking a selfie with Rory the Tiger at the photo ops I feel, even though it was quite funny, children and technology have mixed to much.

Health and Safety:

Health and Safety has grown to become very restricting which I think, although I understand the need for them, that it has taken the fun out of certain things for the kids. For Example you are no longer allowed to sit on Santas’ knee which I personally think spoils the occasion a bit however if it is needed it is needed. Rules and regulations get stricter as parents get angrier and are ready to sue at any moment that the poor kids are free to do less and less.

So there we my quick round up on a few differences between the 90s and now for experiencing those first few years on earth. I believe I had it better although my brother does have a wider range of choices and opportunities in many areas so there he is lucky. I can not wait to see what other differences there are as he goes through school and nights out ad university, if he chooses too and I feel so lucky to watch him and help him as he goes through life.
